John F. Black, Associate, 1991 Call to the Bar

John Black is a general litigation practitioner specializing in family law and civil litigation, including proceedings relating to: for divorce, custody, support and property equalization; under the Construction Lien Act; for damages arising from personal injury; involving mortgagee and creditor remedies; wrongful dismissal; and claims involving municipalities. He has appeared as counsel before various tribunals and at both trial and appellate courts.

John was the immediate past president of the Muskoka Law Association prior to joining the firm in the spring of 2000 and practices out of the firm’s Kingston office.

He received his B.A. (Hons.) in classics from Queen’s University before obtaining his LL.B. from the University of Windsor in 1989. While at Windsor he studied International law in London, England, as part of his curriculum and an internship with John Laws, a barrister of the Middle Temple.

John has spoken at public information sessions regarding the Federal Child Support Guidelines; is a former member of the Superior Court of Justice – Family Branch, implementation standing committee and has served as an elected council member for the Canadian Bar Association – Ontario for several years.

He is a member of the Advocates’ Society and the Frontenac Law Association.
